Nobody knows how big it is
This is the other half of what people search for, and the honest answer is that Rockstar has not said. No figure appears on the store listings or in the support documentation. Unconfirmed
You will find articles quoting a size in gigabytes. Those numbers are made up, usually extrapolated from GTA 5 or Red Dead 2. Plan for a large download and clear more space than you expect to need.
Preloading does not get you in early
Worth being clear about, because it is a common assumption. The unlock is time-based: midnight local, everywhere. Preloading does not move that. What it does is make sure you are playing at 00:01 instead of staring at a progress bar while your friends are in.
What to do before the 12th
- Free up space. More than you think. You can always use it for something else.
- Preorder if you intend to. Preload needs you to own it.
- Redeem your code early if you bought the box or a key. Redeeming on the 19th wastes the week.
- Do it on the 12th, not the 18th. Everyone downloads the same enormous file in the same week.
